Jean West, an Emmy award winning journalist and anchor, has focused on medical and health related reporting and broadcasts for more than two decades.
After 22 years as an anchor and medical reporter for WHAS-TV (ABC/CBS), Jean established "Jean West's Medical Digest", a weekly half hour program devoted to medical, health, and wellness issues on WBKI-TV.
While at WHAS - TV, Jean created the Emmy award winning “Jean West’s Medical Breakthroughs” a daily segment highlighting the cutting edge research, techniques and procedures that she followed from the bench to the bedsid,
She produced, wrote and anchored prime time hour specials covering a variety of topics, while being the first to break the news of major medical events such as the FDA review of silicone breast implants, discrepancies in hospital pricing for drugs and procedures, interviews of the world’s first successful hand transplant recipient, the research labs of Abiomed, the maker of the world’s first totally implantable artificial heart and the first interview with the world’s first recipient of the Abiocor artificial heart.
Jean also worked as an anchor and talk show host for the Far East Network in Japan.
A graduate of Southern University with a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of California at Davis, Jean taught at the University of California at Davis, Laney College in Oakland, Los Angeles Community College Overseas, and at the Japanese campus of the University of Maryland College Park.
She has served on the Boards of Directors of Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, Stage One, Blue Apple Players and Sarabande Books. She has volunteered with the Kentucky Cancer Program’s Look Good Feel Better program as an Image Consultant, and with Paws with Purpose - an organization that trains service dogs for the disabled.
